The Conversation (1974)
Not one for the paranoid of you out there, this will only give you ideas and send you a little mad, just like the protagonist in this film. Gene Hackman plays the surveillance expert who gets a little caught up in his latest case suspecting a young couple will be harmed, he is superb in this, channelling a more serious Ron Swanson from Parks & Rec and shades of his later character in Enemy of the State. The fear and obsession throughout the film is indisputable and easy to get caught up in via the sophisticated direction of Francis Ford Coppola. A 70's classic with a tremendous end scene that i can't watch to often or i might do the same.
Like This Watch These: Enemy of the State (1998) A very good paranoid thriller obviously influenced by this, Sneakers (1992) I loved this as a kid, still do though it looks very dated now, Blow Out (1981) The accidental recording of a murder puts John Travolta in the line of fire.
