Crimson Peak (2015)

Gloriously gothic horror from the genius that is Guillermo Del Toro who always makes sumptuous and delicious looking films - I'm a fan. An intelligent young woman marries a desirable English aristocrat after the sudden death of her father and moves to his grand mansion in Northumberland which is full of secrets, ghosts and his creepy sister. This is a visual treat and the acting is top notch, Hiddleston turns up the charm to 11 but Chastain occasionally drops her accent which is a personal bugbear of mine. The story is not the strongest but the imagery is so strong that i just get wrapped up in it, the gore and violence is decadent and frightful but brilliant too.

Like This Watch These: Sleepy Hollow (1999) The sillier side of gothic horror and fantasy, Pan's Labyrinth (2006) (Subs) Superb fantasy story of a little girl trying to save her mum, A Field in England (2013) Black & White beauty during the  English civil war following some deserters, fantastic.
