30 Days of Night (2007)

MUST WATCH One of the best Vampire movies ever made, it is immediately chilling and eerie then builds up to genuinely scary and devoid of all hope. An Alaskan town gets plunged into darkness for a month so a conniving group of  Vamps take the opportunity to chow down. Outstanding direction from David Slade, it manages to be violent and gory as well as haunting and aesthetic, the pictured shot is phenomenal. The cast react to the horrific situations like real people, no witty retorts or miraculous fight skills just fear and the will to survive, which gives the whole film authenticity. Innovative, mesmerising, gloriously gory and soaked in blood, Twilight this ain't.

Like This Watch These: 28 Days Later (2002) Speedy Zombies get gory too, Byzantium (2012) A different take on two lady vampires, Blade (1998) Half human half vamp poor Wesley Snipes doesn't know where he stands.
