Clouds Of Sils Maria (2014)

An All about eve-esque story that takes you deeper into the themes of vanity, jealousy, aging, the past and present, fame and fortune, love and hate it's all here and more. There is breathtaking scenery in this crisp, clean but not cold drama which aids the story in a quite beautiful if melancholy way. Juliette Binoche plays a film star asked to play the older role in a play that made her famous as the younger role, this kickstarts some serious self analysing. Although this is a serious film it is light and not downbeat at all even during sad moments it is more about thinking than feeling. The three lead females are really good, Binoche always terrific, Chloe Grace-Moretz against type and fresh, Kristen Stewart is a revelation not at all irritating and almost likeable.

Like This Watch These: All About Eve (1951) Classic in which Bette Davis is being pushed out by a younger actress, Personal Shopper (2017) Released soon, same star same director should be good, Opening night (1977) Gena Rowlands aging actress directed by hubby John Cassavetes.
