Free Fire (2016)
I feel genuinely terrible for not loving this and i know i would if it was another director but i love Ben Wheatley and his films so much that i expect too much from him which is massively unfair. This film is very good but for me it feels a little too choreographed and stylised, i would have liked a more loose and spontaneous feel. The cast are all very good but again the script feels very written, they all work well and bounce off each other. The story is excellent, i think it would make a very good book, its fun and exciting to see if anyone will get out of the warehouse alive. It must have been very hard to design and film and that i think is where it loses something, the in the moment feel many of his other films have.
Like This Watch These: High Rise (2015) Wheatley's other most recent film also loses that independent feel but but it feels more appropriate in this tower block, Reservoir Dogs (1992) Another great shoot out in one space, The Untouchables (1987) Some beautiful shoot outs in this genius film.
