Carnal Knowledge (1971)

Not as sexual as it sounds, Jack Nicholson and Art Garfunkel (yes from Simon &) are college boys desperate to lose their virginity and fall in love. Not quite the same as relationships these days (i hope) this is very much a masculine view of things, the women in each couple are very much the second fiddle, though the timeline does begin in the 40's, so it seems probable this was often the case. Jack is the sexy one, Art just comes off a bit desperate and creepy, and as their lives move on they still act the same way and long for the same things, so it can be a little depressing and unexciting. Not one i would revisit.

Better Than This: The Graduate (1967) Mr. Nichols better film of relationship woes, Blue Valentine (2010) Depressing but true and moving, Husbands (1970) A more authentic feel in this drama, of middle aged men.
