Transformers (2007)

Say what you will about Michael Bay - he is a shit filmmaker, but he hit all the right marks on this first foray into the Transformer world, the sequels can piss off. This film is like Robot porn for me the spectacular sounds during transformations give me chills, in a good way and the visuals are astoundingly beautiful. Shia LaBeouf shines in the lead role he is amusing and quite realistic his parents bring lightness and humour also, Megan Fox is fine but improves massively when compared to the atrocious casting of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the third film. The story is a great opener for the franchise unfortunately it all goes downhill from here, in each follow- on film the noises and additional characters begin to bore and grate but rewatching the first they still seem fresh and exciting.

Like This Watch These: The Many Sequels if you must (2009 - till the end of time) Bigger, louder but not better, Robot Overlords (2014) They live among us, Chappie (2015) The wonderful Sharlto Copley in robot form.
