Toni Erdmann (2016) (Subs)

Sweet with constant tinges of sadness this oddball German comedy shows a father trying to reconnect with his distant, business minded daughter by using his alter ego to bring some humour into her life. Surprising, funny and sad this film is long but does not drag, it's not a laugh riot but has expert comic timing and the downbeats are sombrely played but not too depressing. Jack Nicholson would be great as this character in the supposed all american remake but the general tone cannot be transferred it will be more likely butchered,so please don't bother USA.

Like This Watch These: My afternoons with Margueritte (2010) (Subs) Lovely relationship building, Paper Moon (1973) A different father/ daughter pairing, Blood Father (2016) Don't mess with my kin!
