This is a very good film but i imagine that the play with this cast would be astounding and possibly more powerful, although this hefty drama certainly takes you through the emotional mill i was angry, sad and happy sometimes at the same time. The whole cast work superbly together which is not surprising as many performed the play on Broadway with each other, whilst Denzel Washington and Viola Davis absolutely spark off each other, every bit player also truly sizzles. The story is still relevant no matter where you come from or who you are you have probably met some of these characters. I hated Denzel's character Troy so much more than i ever did his devilish detective Alonzo Harris in Training Day, but by the conclusion of the film i had opened up to him a little and understood his motivations more. The sets and costumes seem era perfect yet subtle, all i can say is Denzel please Direct more films.
