Sadly disappointing, very long and not as majestic as i had hoped, the story is like a very dumbed down Apocalypse Now (without the war or fantastic characters), as two Jesuit Priests go in search of their fallen mentor. At the beginning i was a bit worried about the accents, they sounded a bit 'Horrible Histories' to me, but that settled down throughout the film, the acting is good but not great it needed more power to transport you into this very alien atmosphere of 17th century Japan. An interesting and mostly untold part of history it needed something more to really hold my attention never before have i been let down by Martin Scorsese but i suppose it had to happen at some point.
Like This Watch These : Kundun (1997) The life of a Dalai Lama, The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) Scorsese's religious epic, Seven Years in Tibet (1997) More Dalai Lama.
