The three actors used in the telling of this coming of age tale are stupendous, from child to teen to adult they blend seamlessly and believably into one another. What could be a predictable life story of an African-American Miami born kid shows an altered account of oft told actions, subtle and affecting this covers new ground. Every character and actor has an important task, to bring something new and each fulfills this with aplomb. Very well acted, written and directed this is one of the years most understated Oscar nominated films, won't leave you distraught but will stir your emotions and satisfy any longing for unpredictability.
