The Shallows (2016)

A very promising beginning sadly descends into a rather ridiculous ending, but the opening sequences truly had me on the edge of my seat. I am terrified of sharks but find them fascinating so enjoy films with them in, and the waiting at the start is very well done. Unfortunately by the end the shark has been given too much character and is portrayed as a serial killer intent on getting this girl when he is just hungry. Blake Lively performs well and is mostly believable as a bereaved surfing med student, and its nice to see a female lead in this kind of film. Some lovely and exciting camera work throughout, it just pushes too hard towards a wow ending and comes up short.

Like This Watch These: Jaws (1975) Best shark film ever, also one of the best films of all time, genius filmmaking, Deep Blue Sea (1999) Ridiculous and shlocky, yes, but also some great kills, Tremors (1990) A small town defends itself from underground creatures picking them off one by one.
